The Information Systems Laboratory of the Institute of Computer Science, FORTH, received a Gold award in the “Digital applications supporting health professionals” category. This award recognizes their development of an IT Ecosystem designed to provide comprehensive digital services to Cardiology Clinics and Diagnostic Laboratories for Precision Medicine Initiatives.

The Ecosystem was designed and developed within the framework of the “Flagship Action for Supporting the National Research Network on Genetic Cardiovascular Diseases and Prevention of Sudden Youthful Death Based on Precision Medicine” (icardiacnet.gr), funded by the Public Investment Program section of the General Secretariat for Research and Innovation.

The Ecosystem has been installed in the infrastructures of GRNET S.A. and has been fully operational since November 2020. It’s used by doctors in cardiology clinics of National Health System hospitals and by laboratory analysis personnel to record clinical and genetic patient information, respectively. This data feeds into a Clinical-Genetic Information Bank, which then generates the country’s epidemiological map, highlighting clusters of diseases and mutations.
