Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens

The Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens (BRFAA) began its research activities in 2004. The fundamental principle upon which BRFAA was created is the combination of basic and clinical research, serving the immediate utilization of basic biological research results in medical applications, i.e., what is called "translational research."

The main goal of BRFAA is to achieve Excellence in Biomedical Sciences through the employment and collaboration of researchers who conduct advanced basic and translational research, as well as the education of young scientists who are offered all the opportunities that a highly active scientific environment can provide. BRFAA houses 50 research groups that focus their activities on understanding the basic mechanisms and pathophysiology of the immune system, the cardiovascular and nervous systems, as well as stem cells, development, aging, and cancer.

Research and Technology Institure (ΙΤΕ)

The Foundation for Research and Technology (FORTH) was established in 1983 and is one of the largest and most highly organized, equipped, and staffed research centers in the country. It is supervised by the General Secretariat for Research and Technology of the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs. Its headquarters are located in Heraklion, Crete, and it consists of eight Research Institutes.

The Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IMBB) of FORTH is organized into 10 Departments. IMBB's continuous pursuit is cutting-edge research in Life Sciences and Biomedicine. IMBB is one of the most important research organizations in Greece, with outstanding scientific achievements, modern infrastructure, and a wide range of research, innovative, and educational activities. IMBB hosts interdisciplinary research programs and participates in postgraduate programs.

The Institute of Computer Science (ICS) of FORTH has a long history and an internationally recognized tradition in conducting basic and applied research, developing applications and products, and providing services. The research directions of FORTH-ICS take into account cutting-edge technologies, modern trends, international research and technological challenges, as well as the needs of the public and private sectors in Greece.

Aristotle University of Thessaloniki

The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH), also known as Aristotle University or University of Thessaloniki, is a higher education institution based in Thessaloniki, founded in 1925. Today, the university operates a total of over forty departments, organized into eleven faculties, covering a wide range of scientific fields.

Aristotle University is the largest educational institution in Greece by number of students and is internationally recognized for its educational and research academic work. AUTH participates with the 1st Cardiology Clinic - Myocardiopathies Laboratory of AHEPA and the 3rd Cardiology Clinic of the General Hospital of Thessaloniki (Hippokrateio), and finally with the Laboratory of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology.

The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), commonly referred to simply as the University of Athens, is a higher education institution based in Athens. The University of Athens is the oldest higher education institution in modern Greece and contributes significantly to the country's educational and research work. NKUA participates with the Laboratory of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, the 1st Cardiology Clinic of the General Hospital of Athens (Hippokrateio Athens), and the 2nd Cardiology Clinic of Attikon University Hospital.

Onassis Cardiac Surgery Centre

The Onassis Cardiac Surgery Centre (Coordinating Body), or simply "Onasseio," is a model hospital specializing in adult and pediatric heart conditions. It is a donation from the "Alexander S. Onassis" Public Benefit Foundation to the Greek state. Onasseio participates with the Hereditary and Rare Cardiac Diseases Unit and the Laboratory of Molecular Immunopathology and Histocompatibility.

Hellenic Society of Cardiology

The Hellenic Society of Cardiology was founded in 1948 and registered in the scientific societies' records of the Athens Magistrate's Court in 1950. Initially, its founding members were 28, while today it has approximately 3,500 registered cardiologists with a specialization.

The Society's purpose is: The promotion of the field of cardiology and related fields. The organization of scientific conferences and lectures. The pursuit of excellent scientific and professional conditions.
